Back to School.

Dear Alexander Valley School Families,

Welcome to the 2011-12 School Year at AVS. We are so excited to begin the new year!
Please make a point to join us at Back to School night, at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, August 16th. You’ll have a chance to meet your child’s new teacher and hear all about all the coming year has in store for you and your child. Children are expected to attend Back-to-School Night with their families, so that everyone hears the same information.

We have some exciting things in store for our students this school year. As many of you may know by now, Colleen Flores is our new third grade teacher, filling the opening created by Peggy Maddock’s retirement. Our teaching staff has been working this summer on our writing program, as we are planning on having Writers’ Workshop in each classroom this year. You’ll hear more about that when you meet your child’s teacher. We have also been working on our Wednesday afternoon enrichment program, fine-tuning those offerings, and developing new classes for our students. We will share more information at Back to School Night.

We are happy to let you all know that we have a part-time Library and Media Center Assistant working in our library this year. Our Board of Trustees also voted to extend our Kindergarten day to 3:00 all year long. We’re excited about the additional learning opportunities that this will provide our youngest students. Our Board also made changes to our After-School Care Program, increasing the fee to $8 an hour, and limiting the day to 5:00 PM. Rising costs have also caused us to increase the charge for lunch to $4.50, and increase milk to 50¢ a carton.

We look forward to seeing everyone at Back to School Night, on the 16th, and on the First Day of School on August 18th.

Thank you.
